In February 2020, the Mayoral Forum started developing its Plan for Canterbury. This work is currently on hold as we focus on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch this space for further information.
The Plan for Canterbury will replace the Canterbury Regional Economic Development Strategy (2mb PDF) (CREDS), which the Forum has led and implemented since 2014.
The new Mayoral Forum elected in October 2019 agreed to:
- broaden its scope from economic development to sustainable development across the four aspects of intergenerational wellbeing (environmental, economic, social and cultural)
- narrow its focus to a handful of priority issues where the Forum can make a difference through its leadership, facilitation and advocacy.
The connecting thread between the CREDS and the Plan for Canterbury is taking a long-term view of the region’s development and the prosperity of our people and communities. Planning has been informed by an overview of wellbeing in Canterbury (2.5mb PDF) prepared by the secretariat in August 2019.
